Obituary for Loren D. Page
Loren D. Page, age 96, of Bloomington died on August 13, 2020. His death was the result of complications from a stroke. Born January 25, 1924 in Greene County, he was the last of five children born to Orpheus A. Page and Myrtle (McDonald) Page.
He was a graduate of Bloomfield High school in 1942. In 1943, he entered the United States Army and served in World War II in the states and in the European Theater. Upon discharge from military service in 1945, he enrolled in Indiana University in the School of Education. He obtained both a B.S. and M.S. degree from I.U.
Loren married his first wife, Barbara Isom Page in 1946. He and Barbara were both active members of Fairview United Methodist Church. Loren was a member of the church for 74 years, serving in many different positions during that time.
Loren began teaching in the public schools in 1948. All of his educational work was in Monroe County except three years. In 1959, he was appointed the principal of Dyer Junior High School (now Tri-North) and served there for 14 years. In total, he served in education 38 years. He was a member of the Monroe County Retired Teachers Association, the Indiana State Teachers Association, and a life member of the National Education Association.
After the death of his first wife in 1987, he married Peggy Whaley Page in 1988, who passed away in 2005.
Loren is survived by a son, David (Jackie) Page of Lansing, Michigan; daughter, Patricia (Robert) MacLean of Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Lori Page of Brownsburg, Indiana; one step-daughter, Margaret (Thomas) Nolan of Chicago; step-son, David Whaley (Jeanne) of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Courtney Church, James Page, Karen Page, Brenden Hacker, Christopher Page, and Jordan Page. There are five great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. He is also survived by three nieces, Evelyn LaFollette, Janice Clinch, and Jean Kelley; one nephew, Cyril Page; and very good friend, Lucy Hedrick.
In addition to his wives, Barbara Page and Peggy Page, he was preceded in death by his son, John Page, two sisters, Ferne Breeden and Berniece Whaley, and two brothers, Dallas and Kenneth page.
Visitation for Loren will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday, August 17, 2020 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street Bloomington, Indiana.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday at The Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Methodist Church.
