Sarah Wilson Wasserman passed away Wednesday morning August 19th in Bloomington,
Indiana. She was the daughter of William and Frances Miles Wilson of Mt. Union,
Pennsylvania. She was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital on March 17, 1951. She graduated
from the University of Pennsylvania (BA in English) in 1972 and Boston College (MBA) in 1975.
Sarah met her future spouse Stan at Penn in 1970. They were married in 1974. She was
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Illinois, among other university administrative positions at University of Minnesota, University of Illinois, and Indiana University
School of Medicine, from which she retired in 2006. She chaired a national task force for the
National Academy of Sciences to simplify the terms and conditions under which federal research funding was provided to universities. She was an active volunteer at her synagogue,
Congregation Beth Shalom, where she prepared students for their Bar or Bat Mitzvahs, and
Shalom Community Center, where she was the Treasurer and job counselor. She enjoyed her
dogs and walking with friends in the Lake Griffey Nature Preserve.
She is survived by her spouse, and two sons Andrew Joseph, 39, and Eliot Miles, 36, both

I knew Sarah when she worked at the University of Illinois. We shared a love of dogs. I remember the day that she went to the Champaign County Humane Society to adopt a dog. I think she surprised her husband with it, but her sons were in on the pet adoption!
