Obituary for Jessie Naomi Hays (Carter)

God loaned us an Angel for 100 years and has decided to call her home to meet her loved ones. In the early morning hours of August 25th, Jessie Carter Hays left to join the family reunion in Heaven. Jessie was born on August 15, 1920 in Monroe County. She was the daughter of Ralph and Mary Elva (Sharr) Carter and was married to Harley Hays who preceded her in death in 1986. Jessie managed to fit a lot of talents into her life span. She wrote a book when she was eighty titled “Memories from the Heart” and was a talented artist, poet and quilter. She was a longtime member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she played the piano for fifty years. Her Christian faith and her family were the most important things in her life. Her oil paintings are treasured by family members.
Jessie is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Hays) Dillman and a son, Ernie (Patsy) Hays. Grandchildren are Kelly (Barry) Dillman Helms, Karin Dillman, Kasey (Heather) Dillman and Jeff (Angie) Chisham. Great-grandchildren who called her “GG” are Todd (Angela) Powers, Cory (Samantha) Helms, Amanda (Alex) Helms Liby, Luke Greenwood, Brooke Greenwood, Spencer Dillman, Michael Dillman, Libby Greenwood and Abi Andis, and one great-great grandchild, Griffin Tate Manship. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Hays (1986); her parents, a son-in-law, James Dillman; a sister, Mildred Carter Jackson; two brothers, Russell Laudus Carter and Audley Carter. She loved growing up with many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins she can be with once again.
Jessie was a faithful Christian and led her life as an example for us all to follow. We will miss you Mother, Mamaw and GG until we’re with you once more.
