Obituary for Joseph Huston Taylor

Joseph Huston Taylor, 83, of Bloomington passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Joe was born March 26, 1937 in Bloomington and was the son of the late Huston Randolph and Wanda Marie (Carter) Taylor. Joe was in the National Guard, then worked at Coca Cola Bottling Company in Bloomington before going to Otis Elevator in 1965 where he worked 34 years in Electronic Maintenance. After retirement Joe worked for the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. Joe was a member of Smithville Christian Church where he enjoyed participating in church activities. He was member of the Monroe County History Club, enjoyed going to car shows with his Corvette and really enjoyed making various “things” with his many machines he had.
Joe is survived by his wife, Cheri Taylor; 3 daughters, Cheryl Taylor Guthrie, Deborah Taylor-Grundmann, and Carol (Christopher) Wilbur; 2 step daughters, Alisha (David) Sowder, and Rhonda Duzan; brother, Nathaniel (Nancy) Taylor; sister, Bernadine Collins; 7 grandchildren, John Guthrie II, Corey Taylor, Chance Wilbur, Mariza Grundmann, James Duzan, Sam Guthrie, and Kiaya Grundmann; and 3 great grandchildren, Chloe Wilbur, Cayden Wilbur, and Cayson Cooper-Taylor.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Burdette Taylor (1985), and Manuel Taylor (2018).
Visitation for Joe will be from 4-8 pm Thursday, September 3, 2020 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington and from 12 pm until 1 pm on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Smithville Christian Church, 7280 S. Fairfax Road Bloomington.
Services will be 1 pm Friday at Smithville Christian Church with Pastors Stephen Johnson and Mark Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to Smithville Christian Church.
