Obituary

Greta was born in Trenton, NJ. She was a graduate of the George School in Newtown, PA, and she received her Bachelors Degree of Science from Purdue University, as well as her Masters Degree in Health Physics from Georgia Tech. Greta completed her degree in Elementary Education and went on to have her two beautiful children, Emma Elyse and Jakob Ayden. Upon moving to Bloomington, IN from West Chester, PA, Greta made many friends and devoted her life to her family and her community. She had just completed her third Masters degree in special needs child care development with a “mild to moderate” designation and was looking forward to helping children with special needs and giving them a better quality of life. She always went above and beyond in everything she did, always putting others first.

Daughter of the late Dr. Erich H.W. Simon, M.D. and Adella (Durcanin) Simon, mother of the late Dr. Emma Elyse Mumper and Jakob Ayden Mumper, niece of the late Anna and Elmer Harrison, and Martin and Hannelore Simon, she is survived by her brother Erich G. Simon, a sister and brother-in-law Erika L. and Thomas Sands, her niece Alexandria Sands (Liam White), her nephew Erich Sands, her cousins Adella Harrison, Scott Harrison (Marcia), Thomas Simon (Susann), Stefan Simon (Gabriella), and numerous cousins and friends.

Emma was born in Atlanta, GA. She graduated from Bloomington H.S. North and was part of the swim team which participated in the 2008-09 Indiana State meet. Emma was an excellent swimmer, and was also an Age Group State, Senior State, and Sectional Qualifier. Emma graduated with highest honors from Indiana University. She most recently attended Stony Brook University where she received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She always excelled at her studies and was an over achiever and highly admired in her profession. She was compassionate towards those she strived to help. She provided counseling services for young children and teens to help them overcome anxiety, depression, and trauma at the Child Help Partnership in NYC, Stony Brook Hospital, and the Krasner Psychological Center. Emma loved her animals, especially her hedgehogs. She enjoyed exploring new cities and the world through road trips despite mom telling her not to drive by herself. Emma is survived by her aunt, uncle, and cousins. The rock and love of her life, Rishab Nithyanand was blessed to have known and loved her.

Jakob was born in Trenton, NJ. He was currently attending Bloomington H.S. North where he was an honor student and an award-winning swimmer. He was a member of the National Art Honor Society and was also a Cougar Den Leader.
Jakob was the president of the Bring Change to Mind group, an organization that gives students a platform to share their voices and raise awareness around mental health.
He was a kind hearted soul who was a good listener, and a supportive shoulder to all his friends. He enjoyed gaming with his cousin Erich, and drawing, fishing, and tubing with his friends. His sneaker collection and swim medals were his most prized possessions. He was also an aficionado of fast cars. Jakob was an excellent hugger who showered love on anyone in need.

Jakob is survived by his aunt, uncle, cousins, and you couldn’t catch him without his High School sweetheart, Amanda Okulski, by his side.

I met Emma at a Halloween party last year. I was very lucky to get to know her over some cups of coffee the following few weeks. She was truly enchanting and was one of the easiest friends I have made. We kept in touch sharing random youtube videos and netflix recommendations with each other well into the quarantine. I am very grateful for the chance to have known her, and I'm going to miss my friend very much.

I was blessed to know Jake for the last 6 years. We met at Sherwood Oakes when he was in 6th grade. He and 2 other boys and I continued to meet regularly and share life and god. He was a wonderful young man that I had much in common with. We had a shared love of swimming, fast cars, heavy metal music and shoes among other things. Above all, he had a strong faith and belief in God. We talked about it often. Jake made a difference in so many lives. Mine is forever changed feomwing him. There will always be a hole in my heart for him. Miss him so much.

My Dear Gret,
You and I were Heart and Soul together growing up sharing every intimate detail of our lives as teens, our camping trip we took on our bikes to the Delaware Water Gap unbeknownst to our parents, our infamous fight we had over tennis balls that we laughed about many times years later, our endless walks on the canal path and, of course, our crushes we had on each others brothers etc etc. As adults seeing you become a mom for the first time to your beautiful Emma was so special and then having us both share pregnancy together, you with Jakob and me with Natalie, again wonderful memories that I am blessed to have going forward.

I just finished watching your memorial service and everything you described to me on the phone about your life in Bloomington just came to life seeing all your unbelievable friends speak. Your love for Emma and Jakob was always so apparent and even more so after hearing all their friends speak of what incredible human beings they were. You thrived in the Bloomington community as is no surprise since you always described your new life there as one filled with love and friendship even to the extent that you tried to convince me to move there. You will be missed "pigs" but DEFINITELY not forgotten as we will all be better off having you in our lives and living our life in your light. God has you and till we meet again, Love You Always, Ceil (the other "pigs")
