Obituary for Michael "Mike" Manzo
Michael "Mike" Manzo, 81, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at his residence. He was born January 17, 1939 in Hoboken, New Jersey, to Marie Manzo Vaccaro and Dominick Manzo.
He proudly served in the New Jersey National Guard from 1956-1959 and the United States Army from 1959 – 1961, where he was stationed in Augsburg, Germany.
After the service, Mike completed certification in computer programming and accounting at Columbus Business University and Seton Hall University in New Jersey. He worked as a systems analyst at Popular Science Publishing Company, where he met his wife. They then moved to Columbus, Ohio while Mike was working with Borden, Inc. who transitioned their headquarters to Columbus. He continued work in business administration and marketing through the remainder of his career, which took him also to Cincinnati, Ohio and Bloomington, Indiana where he retired.
A dedicated family man, he is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marcia Quick Manzo; his two wonderful daughters, Michelle & husband Dave Wintrow of West Milton, Ohio and Jennifer Manzo of Bloomington, Indiana; grandson Tristan Croucher of Bloomington and his fiance, Brianna Byers and children Ezra, Breelynn and Colson; granddaughter Morgan Dubbs, grandsons Joshua Wintrow and Jordan Wintrow and his fiance Karli Rappold of Ohio; and his sister Judith Marano of New Jersey.
He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather John Vaccaro, sister, Vera Manzo, and nephew, Jamie Marano.
“Pops” took delight in his grandchildren, from bowling, watching planes at the airport, and taking trips to Spring Mill with Tris, to overnight visits with Morgan, who he taught to make his famous spaghetti and meatballs, which she loved.
He enjoyed opera and ballet by attending events at the Jacobs School of Music. After retirement he also enjoyed cooking his own spaghetti and barbecue sauce, reading and surfing the internet.
His family will remember him as an entertaining man. He could take a simple thing that everyone had seen, but talk about it in a way that made it silly and more fun. He filled our lives with laughter.
Mike treasured his faith in God, who gave him unending hope, and his love for his family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 12:30 P.M. with James Valekis officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, from 11 until the service hour.
