Obituary for William Lewis "Bill" Carney

William Lewis “Bill” Carney, 87, of Bloomington passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Meadowood Health Pavilion surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born August 5, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey and was the son of the late William and Ruth (Lawrene) Carney.
Bill came to Bloomington from New Jersey with Otis Elevator where he worked for 37 years as a Supervisor and Foreman. He was a longtime member of the Otis Bowling League and loved to work in his woodshop where he could make just about anything you would want. He also enjoyed working with his 100 gallon aquarium and raised fish for many years to sell to local stores. He deeply loved his grandchildren and enjoyed going to their ballgames and events. Bill was a Veteran of the United States Navy and Veteran of the Korean War, a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and the American Legion Burton Woolery Post 18.
Survivors include his son William N. “Bill” Carney and his wife Bobbi; daughter, Christine L. Bailey and her husband Gary; brother John (Joanne) Carney; 6 grandchildren: Ben(Shea) Carney, Amanda (Schyler) Memering, Jayme Carney, Tommy Bailey, Megan (Rock) Hooker, Melody (Todd) Gardner; 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Carney who passed away on September 10, 2001, his parents and two sisters, Dorthea Driscoll and Ruth Imondi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 4607 W. State Road 46 Bloomington, IN 47404. Father Reginald Wolford will preside and burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington, IN 47401.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to The American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
