Helen Delores Gotwals of Bloomington passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Greenwood Meadows Nursing Home, Greenwood, IN. She was 84.
Helen was born May 15, 1936 in Daviess County, Indiana to Orville and Glenn (Rainey) Foster. The eldest daughter of 7 children, young Helen served her family and community as an in-house caregiver to her aunt. She played organ in church and helped maintain the family farm.
In the 1950’s, Helen moved to Bloomington, taking a job at RCA. She met and married Ron Gotwals, who worked on the assembly line with her. Later in life, Helen faced the slow tragedy of losing Ron to a debilitating disease with courage and grace. She put her sewing skills to work to support her family, working days at Sullivan’s and then later at Redwood & Ross clothiers downtown and evenings at home for personal clients. Later, Helen purchased Nedra’s Formal Ware in Bloomington, which she ran for several years. Helen will be remembered as a skilled and tireless tailor, a loyal friend who loved to laugh, and a selfless, loving mother and grandmother.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Bloomington and a member of the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include her two sons, Michael (Beverly) Gotwals and Brian (Melissa) Gotwals; 5 grandchildren, Stephen Gotwals, Kaitlyn (Gotwals) Mountel, Jeremy Gotwals, Aurelia Moreton-Gotwals and Flora Moreton-Gotwals; one great granddaughter, Lydia Mountel; 3 brothers, Tom, Donnie, and Jim Foster; and sister, Mable Lamb.
Helen was preceded in death by husband Ronald Gotwals; daughter, Lisa Gotwals Lewis; infant son Steven Ray Gotwals; brother Bob Foster; and sister, Mary Lou May.
