Obituary for Sandra Kay "Sandy" (Doub) Anderson

Sandra “Sandy” Kay (Doub) Anderson, 75, died unexpectedly at her childhood home in Bloomington, Indiana on December 7, 2020. She was born on April 29, 1945 to James and Clara Doub. She graduated from Bloomington High School and worked at Sarkes-Tarzian and RCA, the latter until the time of the factory’s closure. Sandy then worked at Ladyman’s Cafe and in telemarketing, all while helping to care for her grandchildren. She attended Ivy Tech Community College and was a lifelong member of the Bloomington Free Methodist Church, volunteering in a variety of ministries. As her mobility declined, she spent time praying for her family and friends.

Sandy was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She had a huge heart and always saw the best in others. She cultivated long-term relationships with a group of women whom she considered sisters. Sandy was the first one to volunteer to help, with no expectation of gratitude. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Sandy reached out to support other mother’s who had suffered the loss of a child, knowing the never-ending heartache from the loss of her younger daughter, Dana Jill Anderson. She was a Girl Scout and then volunteered when her daughters and granddaughter were scouts.

Sandy was known for her warmth and care, having provided care for her grandparents as they aged and for her own parents when their health declined. Sandy struggled financially but always offered a home to family members or friends in need. She enjoyed spending time with people - going out to eat with her friends or calling family and friends to check in and encourage them to have a good day. Sandy loved QVC, game shows, and bad television. She was musically inclined, playing piano and singing for fun at church and with her children and grandchildren. Sandy would play piano late in the evening when her children were young and her life was tough. She would make up silly songs and sing those with her grandchildren.

She loved to go to the casino, especially in French Lick, Indiana, and would take her grandchildren for weekend stays when they were younger. She loved spending time with them and seeing the beautiful hotel. Sandy was always there for her grandchildren, listening to their problems and helping when she could. She was an advocate for blood donation and donated whenever possible throughout her adult life. She was later the recipient of blood donations and her children encourage those who can to donate a pint in her name.

Sandy is survived by her children, Marsha (Michael) Corns and Matthew Anderson; her brother David (Linda) Doub and their family; and her grandchildren Megan, Mitchell, Ryan, Maya, and Benjamin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Doub, her daughter, Dana Jill Anderson, and her nephew, Brian K. Doub.

Sandy will be interred at Valhalla Memory Garden, alongside her parents and daughter. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, December 18, 2020 at 1:00 with her pastor, Les Rovenstine, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to Shop With a Cop, Don Owens, Fraternal Order of Police, Inc. PO Box 1561 Bloomington, Indiana 47402.
