Obituary for Myra Louise Powell

Myra Louise Powell, 83, of Bloomington passed away peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Stonecroft Health Campus. Myra Lou was born September 7, 1937 in Monroe County, Indiana and was the daughter of the late Clyde W. and I. Rosamond Holmes.

She grew up on the family farm in Kirksville with her brothers and sister, and graduated from Bloomington High School Class of 1955 and soon after met and married Lyle S. “Bud” Powell and they would enjoy over 50 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. Together they owned several businesses in Bloomington and surrounding towns. Myra Lou worked for over 30 years in the Accounting Field working for Ron Langley, Bob Ralston and Ron Sherwood until her retirement. Myra Lou was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, was a member of the Monroe County Fair Board where she had served as Treasurer, Queen Contest Advisor, Commercial Building Booth Rental and was a 4-H leader for many years. She enjoyed reading and doing word search but loved more than anything spending time with grandchildren.

Myra Lou is survived by her children, Debra L. Quimby, and Eric S. (LeeAnna) Powell; 8 grandchildren, Ashley (Dave) Miller, Whitney Quimby, Grant (Sarai) Quimby, Lauren (Alex Hickman) Powell, Adam Graham, Miranda Graham, Kenny Graham and Mitchell Powell; 5 great grandchildren, Norah Miller, Caroline Miller, Paylin Quimby, Andrew Quimby and Olivia Quimby, and several nieces and nephews.

Myra Lou was preceded in death by her husband Bud in 2016, parents; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Grace Powell; sister, Wilma Inman; brothers, Leo Holmes and Wally Holmes.

Visitation for Myra Lou will be from 10 am until 1 pm on Friday, December 18, 2020 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard. Due to Covid-19 restrictions we will be limited to 25 people at a time in the funeral home. A private family service will follow at 1 pm at The Funeral Chapel. Friends and family may watch the service through The Funeral Chapel’s Facebook page starting at 1 pm. Burial will be at Greene County Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church or Greene County Chapel Cemetery.

Myra Lou’s family would like to thank Jo Ann Moore who visited with Myra several times a week at the nursing home over the past 5 years and was such a great friend. Also thank you to all the nurses, aides and staff at StoneCroft for all of their love and care over the past 5 years.
