Obituary for Clifford Odell Buskirk
Our Lord and Savior received a special gift this Christmas season. Clifford Odell Buskirk ascended to heaven at 8:20 pm on Christmas day to be with the Lord. He was at home surrounded by his loving family.
It is said that a person’s life is measured by the dash between their birth date and death date. Let’s look at Clifford’s dash.
He was born October 19, 1925 to William and Wanda (Keller) Buskirk in Bloomington, IN. On November 27, 1948 he married Anna Mae Sparks. They just celebrated their 72 years of marriage. The last few years Anna has had dementia and Clifford always said as long as he was able he would take care of Anna at home. Mission accomplished!
Clifford served in WWII. He was a veteran of the Navy and was assigned to the LST 247 ship. He enjoyed going to his Navy ship reunions that were held at various locations in the country. It was a sad day when most of his shipmates had passed or were unable to travel and the reunions had to be discontinued.
Clifford retired in 1985 from RCA in Bloomington, IN after 39 years of service. He was a 50 year member of the Greene County Chapel church and was still a Trustee as well as currently being Trustee of the Greene County Chapel Cemetery. He was also a member of the Solsberry American Legion.
Clifford enjoyed farming and raising beef cattle. The farm has been in the family for over 140 years and in 2013 he was awarded the Hoosier Homestead Farm Centennial award. One of his greatest pleasures was his 1953 Ford Jubilee Tractor which he named “Ole Henry.” In 2010 for a Father’s day gift the family had “Ole Henry” repainted and refurbished. He took great pride in raking hay with “Ole Henry” even doing so just this past summer. He loved working in the woods, putting up hay, and being around his cattle.
He loved his family and would do anything to help them in whatever way he could.
I believe Clifford’s dash was pretty well filled and the Lord will truly bless him. His legacy will live on through his family and friends.
Surviving member of his family to carry on his Legacy are his wife, son Bill, daughter-in-law Lana, granddaughter Selena Buskirk (Ralph Groomer), grandson C.J. Buskirk (Leann), great grandchildren Abby, Anna Buskirk and Hayden Groomer. Several nephews and nieces, and several great and great great nephews and nieces survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David and wife Annabelle, sister Nellie Kelly and husband Pete, sister Juanita Abram and husband Verne, brother Van who was killed in a farming accident in the mid 40’s, nephew Ronald Abram and niece Connie Sanders.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Schmalz and staff for their wonderful care over the years. Also, Monroe Hospital and Heart to Heart Hospice for their great care during the last days of Clifford’s journey to be with the Lord.
Arrangements will be handled by The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 1 pm at Greene County Chapel Church with Pastor C.J. Buskirk (grandson) and Pastor Rob Martindale (nephew) officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Chapel Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 am until service time. The family asks that anyone attending please wear a mask and to observe social distancing inside the church.
