Frederick Dannie Byers, 87, of Bloomington, passed away Monday January 11, 2021 at IU Health Hospice House. He was born November 30, 1933 in Bloomfield, Indiana to Dannie and Agnes Mae (Vest) Byers and he attended Bloomfield High School.
Fred began dating the love of his life, Beverly Hunter, in 1951 and married her in 1953 after they graduated. Their incredible love story and 67 years of marriage were a tremendous source of pride for him. In 1962 after the birth of their second daughter, Fred and Beverly moved to Daytona Beach, Florida and bought a motel, living there for several years until he moved his family back to Bloomfield. Fred then took a job at Western Electric. He also worked at Holsum and Colonial Bakeries in both Indiana and Florida from 1955 through 1969. In 1971 Fred started his own business, Byers Electric Heating and Cooling, and continued to run it until 2018 when he retired at the age of 85. He took several men under his wing and gave them their own start in business. Always willing to share his knowledge, he taught many men electrical wiring who have, and undoubtedly will, pass this on to their sons and grandsons. Fred was charming, kind, hilarious, a total tease, and a harmless flirt. He was incredibly neat and tidy, never leaving the house without a crease in his jeans and a pressed handkerchief in his pocket. He was very outgoing, quickly turning strangers into friends, and he loved solving the problems of the world with those friends over breakfast or while getting a haircut at Kenny's Barber Shop. He loved animals, especially dogs. He loved stealing food off of your plate, or perhaps using his spoon to leave some of his food on your face when you weren't looking. He was incredibly generous with his family, and made everyone feel like we were his favorite, always reminding each of us that he loved us more. Fred believed in the principles of the Faith Christian Church where he was a member.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Paul and Dallas Byers and his grandson David Rollison.
Fred will be deeply missed by his wife, Beverly Byers, his daughters Linda (Jim) Britton, Lisa (Gerry) Stieglitz and, Lori (Steve) Newsom, his grandchildren Krissy Tallent, Breanne Frank, Derek Rollison, Alex Coffey, Meredith Coffey, Katie Newsom, Eve Newsom and Jenna Newsom, and his 11 great-grandchildren.
