Obituary for Larry Slade Whitt

Larry Slade Whitt passed away at Methodist hospital January 23, 2021. Larry’s parents, Roy and Vennea (Venie) Whitt were blessed with his birth on April 25, 1956 at Clinch Valley Hospital in Tazewell, Virginia. Due to both parents going to be with Jesus at a young age, Larry was raised with his uncle Rhudy Keith, by his maternal grandparents Robert and Novie Keith of Tazewell, Virginia.
Larry worked in the Virginia coal mines for many years, until he relocated to Indiana and became a Maintenance Technician with GE in Bloomington, In. He retired from GE after 25 years of service. Larry served in the United States Marine Corps.
Larry enjoyed playing his guitar and banjo. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, beekeeper and always looked forward to watching football. For many years Larry fished the trout streams in Virginia and crappie lakes in Mississippi. He could always identify birds by their song and sound. He would adamantly watch a wide variety of wildlife strolling across his back yard and often created names for many of them. Larry anxiously awaited spring to plant the vegetable garden and he actively took part in the harvest and canning of the bounty. His cat which he named, Two Claws and his two Jack Russell grandpuppies Coco and JJ, gave him much affection and joy.
Larry is survived by his wife Ruth “Candi” Whitt, his daughter Bequita Prince and her companion Mark Mundy of Martinsville, In., his sons Joshua Whitt of Indianapolis, In., Damionne Whitt of Martinsville, In. and his stepsons Brian Lentz and Brad Lentz both of Bloomington, In.
