Obituary for Mary Jane Ayers

Mary Jane Ayers, born Velma Mary Godsey, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Mary was born January 28, 1948 in Monroe County and was the daughter of George Washington and Nola Christine (Moore) Godsey. She was later adopted by Dr. Arthur Baker Burnett and Josephine (Rundell) Burnett. Mary attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri and was a homemaker and also worked with disabled adults in group homes. She was a member of Burgoon Baptist Church.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Heather Ayers-Marsh and Holly Saunders-Ayers; two brothers, Harold (Ruth) Godsey and Ray (Sue) Godsey; two sisters, Kathryn (Victor) Smith and Jane Ann (Dennis) Winders; 4 grandchildren, Mark Ayers-Marsh, Julie Marsh, Ayla Ayers-Saunders, and Erik Saunders; two great grandchildren, Christine Collins and Jackson Collins; her loyal and faithful friend, James Gans, along with several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Ayers; daughter, Tonekka Lynn Ayers; her parents and adoptive parents, 9 sisters and 2 brothers.
Visitation for Mary will be on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 5-7 pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington, IN
Funeral services will follow the visitation on Wednesday at 7:00 pm with Brother John Woods officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Burgoon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Mary’s memory may be given to Burgoon Baptist Church.
