Obituary for Steve Gilbert Boltinghouse

Steven Gilbert Boltinghouse, 65, of Bloomington, passed away, Sunday, May 23, 2021 peacefully at home after years of enduring debilitating arthritis.
Steve was born March 29, 1956 to Gilbert Charles and Martha Viola (Arnold) Boltinghouse. Steve grew up in Unionville and became a successful businessman.
Steve attended Unionville School until the opening of the new Bloomington North High School. He was a member of the 1974 graduating class, being the second class to graduate from the new school. Steve met his wife, Paula Hawkins, at Unionville Elementary and they have been together since 8th grade. They married after graduation in 1974 and spent 46 years together. Upon graduation Steve was employed by Bennett Roofing of Bloomington, he loved the work and being outdoors, he was not a desk person. He then went to be employed by his Aunt and Uncle, Helen and Jules Sonneborn at their business, Commercial Service. Later, he was employed by Earl and Cathy Cooper at The Light Center. Deciding he loved the roofing work he started his own business in 1979 when his son was just two months old and with only a $100 in his pocket. He lived and breathed Steve’s Roofing. He grew and built a very successful company which is still in business today. Feeling the need to retire, Steve sold the business. But, retirement was not for Steve. He then established Boltinghouse Construction. Due to Steve’s devotion and hard work that business also became successful. Steve met many wonderful people through both businesses and many remain friends today. When Steve’s health it became too debilitating to work and operate the business so he was forced into retirement. Steve was a true worrier even with his disabilities; he was fighting them every day.
Steve is survived by his wife Paula, his son Robert, his daughter in law Aleta (Robertson), his three grandchildren: Ashlyn, Austin, and Adalyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Joan Wicker and Nancy Hupp.
A private service for close family and friends was held at The Funeral Chapel on Wednesday May 26, 2021. Services were conducted by Pastor Tom Rhodes, a very dear friend.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. William Schmalz and his staff as well as Dr. Matthew Parmenter and his staff. They brought Steve through many of his hard times.
