Obituary for Timothy Alan Habbe

Timothy Alan Habbe, M.D., passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents; Arnold Douglas Habbe and Martha Lillian Stone Habbe; his brother, Thomas Edward Habbe; nephew, Michael Edward Habbe; and beloved dog, Bentley.
Tim was a 1957 graduate of Bosse High School in Evansville and attended Indiana University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1966, where he also did his internship, then completed his residency in Urology at Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Tim returned to Bloomington with his family to start his practice. In 1980, he was elected Chief of Staff at Bloomington Hospital and was the youngest physician to hold the position. Tim retired in 2006 after forty years of practice.
He had a long list of hobbies including mechanics, carpentry, remodeling, and landscaping, and he was a collector of vintage cars. Tim considered himself to be a “Gentleman Farmer” and at one time grew corn and soybeans on his 200-acre farm and kept a stable of horses.
Tim was a fervent fan of everything IU. He was a Wells House Society Member. He was also a lifelong season ticket holder for IU football and basketball. He was an avid golfer and was proud of hitting three holes-in-one in his lifetime.
Tim was a master card player and enjoyed playing gin with his best friends who nicknamed him “The Gin God.” His friends and family got a kick out of his corny sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughters Hope Ellington and her husband Jeff, Jill Meister and her husband Andy, Beth Barnhart and her partner Jeff Watson, and son, Matthew Habbe. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren Lindsey and Lincoln Ellington, Lilly and Hadley Meister, Sydney and Ben Barnhart, Cameron Habbe, and nephew, Larry Habbe.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street Bloomington, Indiana on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 5:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tim’s name may be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington.
