Ellen Tiberend, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 7. Ellen was married to Howard Tiberend for 41 years, and he precedes her in death.

Ellen spent over 30 years as an employee of Indiana University. She was a longtime employee of the Indiana University Alumni Association.

Ellen was born in Sanders on August 10, 1937, to Glen Shields and Vivin (Young) Shields, who precede her in death, as well as her two brothers, Floyd Shields and Robert Shields, and her sister-in-law, Edith Shields.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Tiberend Slawson; her son-in-law, Greg Slawson, of Saline, Michigan and her son, David Tiberend of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Katie Slawson and Sam Slawson, both of Saline, Michigan, and many nieces and nephews.

Ellen enjoyed volunteering for the Monroe County Election Board. Ellen loved being a mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed sewing, watching racing and traveling with her family. She was a longtime member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.

Viewing will take place on Thursday, November 11, from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, in Bloomington. The funeral will be on Friday, November 12, at 1:00 P.M., at The Funeral Chapel. Burial will be immediately after at Clear Creek Cemetery.
