Obituary for Steven M. Coopersmith
It is with unbearable sorrow, that we announce the passing of
Steven Coopersmith.
Steve has been a part of the Bloomington community for over 50 years-beginning his journey as a student in the school of music and putting down roots in the community as a business owner, friend to many and lover of all things IU. Steve also found the love of his life at IU-Karin. Together they built a wonderful life together and helped share in the joy of many of their friend’s accomplishments, whether it be careers or in their personal lives. They helped celebrate in the birth of friends’ children and then got to dance the night away at their weddings. They were also the rock that many relied on through their own trials, challenges and tragedies. Steve loved the people in his life and community, sharing of himself in both small and large ways-- seeing the world full of future friends not strangers.
Steve was an avid traveler and wanted to share the joy he found exploring new places, cultures and cuisines with others--so much so that his retirement career was as a travel agent. When they could stand to be apart from their beloved Bernese Mountain Dogs, Steve and Karin traveled extensively, both as part of his business, but also with friends. The fun and experiences they shared together and with their many friends on these adventures hold great memories.
Steve will be missed by many. These recollections, coupled with his kindness, generosity and sense of humor, are what we hope his friends and family will hold dear in celebrating his life and comprise his lasting legacy.
