Obituary for Esther Wanita Ping

Esther Wanita Ping, 97, of Bloomington, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Garden Villa Nursing Home.

Wanita was born Sunday, September 7, 1924 in Bloomington and was the daughter of the late Winfred Nikirk Sr. and Amanda Esther (Osborne) Nikirk.

Wanita was a graduate of Bloomington High School and was a self taught musician. During WW II she volunteered to play piano and serve as hostess for the servicemen at the USO. (She always said the Navy service men were the best dancers). She was a church pianist and sang in the choirs of Assembly of God churches in the Bloomington area inspiring her daughter to become a church musician as well.
Wanita was married to Robert “Bob” Ping, a home builder and developer, and in addition to being a full time mother and homemaker she contributed to their construction business as an interior decorator and staging the houses for sale.

Wanita is survived by her husband of 73 years, Robert Ping; daughter, Cynthia Hrabak; and her granddaughter, Megan Hrabak-Vasich along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Wanita in death were her parents; sister, Dortha Lou Anspaugh; and brothers, Winfred Nikirk Jr. and Curnel Nikirk.

Visitation for Wanita will be from 11 am until 12 pm on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard.

A service to celebrate Wanita will be held at 1 pm on Thursday in the Mausoleum Chapel at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.
