Obituary for Robert "Bob" Kaplowitz

Robert "Bob" Kaplowitz passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Bob was born on May 8, 1948, to Jack and Ruth Kaplowitz. Bob's mother passed away in 1959 when he was only eleven years old, but in those short years, she passed on to Bob her love for opera. His father, who was a pillar of support and encouragement to Bob his entire life, passed away in 2012.

Bob is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Korde, along with their children: Tracy Katz and her husband, John; Scott Korde and his wife, Christine; Cindy Gerstein and her husband, Brian; and Allison Comito and her husband, David. Bob is survived his step-brother, Barney, and his step-sister, Irvene. He is also survived by his step-mother, Joyce.

Bob struggled with the limitations that came with having cerebral palsy his entire life. Despite those struggles, he was anything but self-pitying. Even as a young man, and with his family's loving support, he worked hard to get the best education he possibly could.

Bob placed his faith in Jesus Christ in 1970. His life was a testament to his joy and faith in his savior, and he was an active member of his church for many years.

Bob moved to Bloomington in 1976 to study music at Indiana University. He lived in his own home in Bloomington on Eastside Drive where he was cared for by many "Bobbites" for over forty years. He loved his family and friends dearly, and he will be sorely missed by many in the community and around the world.

A visitation will be held at Trinity Reformed Church in Bloomington, Indiana, on Tuesday, January 11, at 11am. A funeral service will follow immediately at 3pm.
