Obituary for Itasca Silvana Peete

Itasca Silvana Peete passed away at IU Health Bloomington on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 29, 1965 to Albert Merriwether and Carole Garnuette. Itasca graduated high school from Horace Mann High in Gary, Indiana, and later went on to study business in college. Helping others was a passion of Itasca. She worked as a home health nurse for many years and advocated for women in need through her work serving at Middle Way House in Bloomington and at the women’s shelter in Elkhart.
Itasca is survived by her five daughters, Shanetha Merriwether, Monique Merriwether, Monica Merriwether, Jasmine Merriwether, and Jada Peete; her five grandchildren, Jiana Woods, Amaya Woods, Marquis Merriwether, Jeremiah Vann- Mincy, and Oliver Thomas-Merriwether; and two siblings, Albert Merriwether and Nicole Merriwether.
She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and two twin, infant boys, Andrew and Andre Peete.
Itasca’s interests included listening to music, dancing, watching movies, and watching TV. Her favorite channel to watch was the ID Channel. She also enjoyed watching church services on TV. Itasca appreciated a good home-cooked meal and a clean house too.
Services honoring Itasca’s life and legacy will be held at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard on Friday, June 10, 2022, at 1:30 P.M. with Pastor Kyle Crafton officiating. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery in Bloomington, Indiana.
