Obituary for Alberta M. Sparks

Alberta Mae Sparks, 95 of Bloomington earned her Heavenly reward on Tuesday August 23, 2022 at the IU Health Hospice House with her family by her side.

Alberta was born March 11, 1927 in Lawrence County, Indiana and was the daughter of the late Albert and Beada (Evans) Patton. Alberta was the oldest living and lifelong member of Stanford Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, was active in the Women’s Missionary and helped out at the church wherever she was needed. Alberta was retired from RCA and loved to garden in her free time.

Alberta is survived by her daughters, Linda (Dee) Mahaffey and Donna (Kenneth) Hancock; 4 grandchildren, Pam Headley, Darin Cardwell, Terry Johnson, and Rickie Johnson Jr.; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Tom Sparks and Gary Sparks, granddaughter, Debbie Peterson; sisters, Cora Elizabeth Young, and Dorothy Quimby; brother, Wayne Patton and son-in-law Robert Cardwell.

Services for Alberta will be 1:00 pm Monday, August 29, 2022 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard with Pastor Charles Evans Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until service time on Monday at The Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Alberta’s memory to Stanford Baptist Church.
