Obituary for Willard Ray Duckett

Willard Ray Duckett, 85, of Bloomington passed away on Friday September 23, 2022 at Bell Trace Health and Living Center. Willard was born September 28, 1936 in Walhalla, S.C. and was the son of the late Elam A. and Florence I. Addis Duckett. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Milton J. Duckett and nephew Stephen Ray Duckett. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mollie Watts Duckett; one niece Sharon L. Duckett; one half brother, Lonnie Duckett (Bonnie); 2 half sisters, Glenda Ragsdale (Jim) and Trudy Thompson.

Willard was a graduate of Walhalla high School class of 1955. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he attended Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, earning a B.A. in Philosophy. He continued his studies at Indiana University where he earned an M.A. in Religious Studies, and a PH.D in History and Philosophy of Education. He retired from Phi Delta Kappa International after 26 years of service.

Willard enjoyed camping, fishing, birding, and photography. His favorite vacation place was along the Blue Ridge Parkway. In his later years, listening to country music classics was a favorite past time.

Visitation will be 11 am until 1 pm Wednesday September 28, 2022 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington.

Private entombment services will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
