Obituary for Gregory "Greg" Whaley
Gregory Lynn “Greg” Whaley, age 69, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away at Hearthstone Health Campus on Saturday, November 19, 2022 after a year long battle with cancer. He was born on May 5, 1953 in Bloomington, Indiana to Donald M. and Norma J. (Sparks) Whaley.
Greg graduated from Bloomington High School in 1971. He married Chris (De Pree) Whaley in 1978 and they welcomed their daughter Heather in 1989. He grew up working in the family business, Whaley Construction Company. He spent his career as an estimator in the construction industry with extended periods at Neidigh Construction, Whaley Construction, and Rock Solid Masonry. He retired from Rock Solid Masonry as an estimator/project manager in February of 2022 due to failing health. He especially enjoyed spending time with his daughter and her family. On most weekends you could find him handicapping and watching horse racing online.
Greg is survived by his mother Norma J. Graebe, daughter Heather Littman (Justin) of Portland, Indiana, granddaughter Aubrey Littman, brother David Whaley (Debbie), sister Teri Whaley, former wife Chris Whaley, as well as several stepsiblings, nieces, nephews and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Greg was preceded in death by his father Donald M. Whaley, grandparents, Dexter R. and Jessie E. Whaley, Herschel W. and Lillian B. Sparks, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family wishes to acknowledge Greg’s cousin Marilyn Kindred for her dedication and support throughout the hardest days of his journey.
Visitation for Greg will be held from 9am to 11am on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street Bloomington, Indiana.
Funeral services will be at 11am on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at The Funeral Chapel. There will be no graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Greg’s name to a charity of your choice.
