Obituary for Thurman Earl Terrell

Thurman Earl Terrell, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Born on November 9, 1935 in Monroe County, Indiana, Thurman was the son of John Wallace and Myrtle Ellen (Hays) Terrell. Thurman was born and raised on his family farm until 1963, when Lake Monroe took the farm, but his heart remained. Thurman and Lily moved and began farming in Bean Blossom Township. He farmed cattle, hogs, and grain. He grew up in the hills of Brown County, where he hunted and rode his horses for many years. Thurman was a 1953 graduate of Smithville High School. Through time, he worked at RCA, Lincoln Mercury, Monroe County Highway Department, and school bus driver for RBBSC.
Thurman held a heart for the Burgoon Church, where his family attended. Thurman spent time hunting coons, squirrels, and took pride in his many mushrooms found. Thurman knew all the hills in Brown County, where he hunted and rode his horses.
Thurman enjoyed helping others, mowing the Terrill Cemetery and giving of his time cutting wood for others in need, etc. Thurman enjoyed hosting his family reunions and gatherings, and he loved family, music, and laughter. Thurman took pride in family, friends, hard work, and honesty.
Thurman is survived by his daughters, Sandra J. Kirtman, Karen S. Duckworth (Bill), Katherin L. Warthan (Don), and Janice E. Payne (Dennis); sons, Robert J. “Bobby” Terrell and Kenny Terrell (Shannon); 28 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ellen Lloyd, and Thelma Jo Kahn.
Thurman was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lily Moss (Robinson) Terrell; daughters, Cynthia Jane Terrell and Judith Ann Terrell; siblings; Glodene Chambers, Pauline Floyd, Arleana Wires, Lester Terrell, Edgar Terrell, and Annalee Rogers.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 2:30 PM on Monday, January 2, 2023 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street Bloomington, Indiana.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 on Monday at The Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow at Clear Creek Cemetery in Bloomington. Rev. Harold Godsey will officiate.
