Obituary for William "Bill" Henson

William “Bill” Francis Henson, 73 of Bloomington passed away unexpectedly at IU Health Hospital Bloomington with his family by his side on Saturday January 7, 2023. He was born May 29, 1949, in Jeffersonville, IN. He was the son of Francis L. & Beatrice (Washington) Henson. Bill graduated from Bloomington High School. After graduation, he followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the United States Army. Then he joined the Bloomington Fire department where he served Bloomington from June 1973 – February 1998. After retiring from the fire department, he worked as a contractor with his son Mark for Bose Corporation as an A/V technician. He also worked at Rogers Group for several years and until his passing at Baxter Corporation in Bloomington. He was an active member of Moose Lodge and American Legion. Bill enjoyed golfing, working on cars, watching western, auto racing and was a man of many talents/skills.
Bill was preceded in death by both his parents, the love of his life (wife) Mary C. Henson, brother Gregory Henson, nephew Paul Henson.
He is survived by daughter Monice Henson, Lisa Butcher (Scott May), Tracy (Gary) Meadows, Angel Butcher, Chanda Barrick, sons Mark Butcher & Scott (Jennifer) Butcher. Some of his happiest memories was spend with his grandchildren: LaMonte Henson, William Henson, Julian Henson, Jordan Butcher, David Butcher, Shane Meadows, Jared (Natasha) Meadows, Emily (Garrett Fox), Dakota (Amanda) Hawkins, Madison Hawkins. Great grandchildren: Alliyah Butcher, Ezra Butcher, Nola Meadows, Addie Butcher, Foster Meadows, Amelia Meadows, Finley Meadows and Layla Meadows. They brought so much love, joy and laughter to his life. Marvin & Portia Chandler, one niece and several cousins.
A special thanks to the nurses, staff and Dr. Lonial who took care of him at IU Health.
Viewing will be held on Friday January 13, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 8:00pm at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington, IN. The funeral service will be Saturday 10:00 am at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens with military honors.
