Obituary for Mary E. Koontz
Mary Elizabeth (Doney) Koontz, age 88, passed away on January 16, 2023, at McCormick’s Creek Rehabilitation Center in Spencer, Indiana.
Mary was born on December 4, 1934 in Washington, Indiana, daughter of the late John A. and Pansey I. (Cutsinger) Doney. She retired from Kroger after 42 years working as a cashier. Mary was a longtime Sunday school teacher at Southside Christian Church in Smithville, IN. Mary loved her family, gardening, beaches, and the outdoors.
Mary is survived by sons John Baker of Smithville and Danny Baker of Leesville; daughters Mary Kay Hunter of Bloomington and Carolyn Robertson of Bloomfield; and grandchildren Scotty Jones, Jeremy Jones, Sam Robertson, Rebecca Lanier, Crystal Baker, Amber Baker, Nova Lane and Daisy Baker. She is also remembered by 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bob Koontz, son Kenneth Baker and fiancé Pete Jones.
A visitation will be held for Mary on Sunday January 22 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard from 1-6 PM. A second visitation will be held Monday January 23 at The Funeral Chapel from 10-12 PM, followed immediately by a funeral service at The Funeral Chapel and burial at Smithville Cemetery.
Flower arrangements are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Smithville Cemetery Association, c/o Clear Creek Township Trustees, 9206 S. Old Highway 37 Bloomington, IN 47403.
