Obituary for Uyvonna L. Hayes
Uyvonna L. Hayes of Bloomington, IN, passed away on February 2, 2023 at the age of 95 years old at the Hospice House in Bloomington. She was just 15 days shy of her 96th birthday.
Uyvonna was born in Connersville, IN on February 17, 1927 to Christopher Columbus Hensley and Betty Ann (Saylor) Hensley. She was the eleventh of twelve children and last surviving child.
Uyvonna arrived in Bloomington from Connersville in 1949. Through the next several years she worked various jobs to support and raise two young daughters. Eventually she started work at RCA as a group leader and was involved in putting together the first color TV in RCA history. In 1961 she married Richard E Beard. Together they raised their children before later separating. Uyvonna was fortunate to later find love again and married Amos Hayes in 1986. Together they ran Hayes Motor Sales until Amos retired and sold the business in 2016.
Uyvonna was passionate about helping others. Throughout the years she volunteered at Bloomington Hospital as a pink lady delivering mail and flowers to patients. Additionally, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels helping to deliver countless meals to the disabled and elderly around Monroe County.
Uyvonna was a member of Sherwood Oaks Church and the Omega Phi Tau Sorority. One of Uvyonna most endearing features was her kindness to others and the love she felt for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, spouses, her first born son Richard “Richie” Beard,
son in law, Danny Arnold, and grandson Mikel Arnold.
She is survived by her children, Sharon (Mikel) Arnold, Christina Arnold, Cathleen (Bruce) Garber, and Christopher Beard; grandchildren Kelly (Kevin) Waetke, Doug (Nici) Arnold, Lesle (Todd) Payne, Steven (Shannon) Webb, Clint (Ali) Richardson, Curt (Celeste) Richardson, Stephanie (Bo) Railey, Joseph Barnes, Taylor Beard, and Warren Beard.
Uyvonna had twenty three great grand children, two great-great grand children; step children Donna Hayes, Mike (Ellen) Hayes, and Jill (Tom) Bohl. Five step grandchildren, eleven step great grand children and one step great great grandchild.
Services with viewing will be held at The Funeral Chapel. Visitation time will be from 11 am until 1 pm on Wednesday February 8, 2023. A service will follow at 1 pm with Tom Ellsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
