Obituary for Garry Freeman

Garry Donovan Freeman, age 77, passed away the morning of February 10, 2023. Everyone who knew Garry knew his kind, giving, and calm demeanor. He will be greatly missed by so many of us.
Garry was born on October 27, 1945, to Leo and Mabel Freeman in Greene County, Indiana. He attended Smithville School and Broadview Elementary for his early education, eventually graduating from Bloomington High School in 1963. He went on to earn an MBA from Indiana University, where he met his wife, Chris Freeman (Blomquist). Garry owned his own contracting business and built many homes in the Monroe County area, doing much of the labor and the designing himself. Upon retirement, Garry never stopped. He could often be found working on a family member’s car, helping with home repairs, or providing care to those in need. All of us who knew Garry well also knew he loved to eat peanuts! He attended Christ Community Church in Bloomington.
Garry was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Mabel Freeman, sisters Betty (Toombs) and Phyllis (Burch), brother-in-law Ivan Burch, and brother Roger. He is survived by his wife, Chris; daughters Stephanie, Anne (husband Adam Thies), and Sarah; sister Marilyn (Runge), brother-in-law Bob Runge, grandchildren Colin Freeman-Day, Alex Freeman-Day, Audrey Freeman-Day, Kate Thies, Lauren Thies, Peter Thies, and Andrew Thies; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and countless others lucky enough to be among his friends.
Visitation will be from 10:00-1:00 on Saturday February 18 with a service at 1:00 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. 3rd Street, Bloomington, IN. Burial will follow directly afterwards at Carmichael Cemetery in Greene County. To share memories and condolences with the family, please visit thefuneralchapel.net.
