Obituary for Martha I. Daniel

Martha Irene (Jones) Daniel, 93, of Bloomington passed away on Saturday February 11, 2023 at Stonecroft Health Campus. Martha was born November 1, 1929 in Monroe County, Indiana and was the daughter of the late Clyde W. and Ruth B. (Crane) Jones.

Martha graduated from Bloomington High School with the class of 1947. Martha married Henry O. Daniel on November 2, 1947 and spent 67 loving years together before his passing in 2015. Martha was a homemaker and helped Henry farm and took care of the garden and yard.

Martha was a 4-H leader for 60 years. She was a Charter member of the 4-H Board of Monroe County (12 years) and served as President and Secretary. A member of the the 4-H Adult Leaders club and served as Secretary, Walk-A-Lot Extension Homemakers serving as President and Secretary, President of Monroe County Homemakers serving as President and Secretary, Monroe County Extension Board serving as President and Treasurer, Monroe County Fairboard for 40 years, served as Fair Secretary for 19 years. Martha was also in charge of the Monroe County Fair Open Class building for 3 years, she started the Children’s Exhibit at the Monroe County Fair. She was a member of Farm Bureau Inc., where she was the Secretary for 12 years. Martha was a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash; she helped establish the Children’s Farms Festival at Peden Farm. She was a member of Cross Roads Methodist Church since 1947 where she was a Sunday school teacher and Chairman of the Council on Ministries and President of the Women’s group.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 2015, parents and sister, Carolyn Lettelleir and her husband Charles.

Martha is survived by her son John H. Daniel (Janice); daughter, Patty Pace (Dale); grandchildren, Jennifer Benson (Andrew), Wesley Daniel, Maggie Burks (Matt), Mindy Slavens (Scott), Nathanial Pace; great grandchildren, Ellie Benson, Anna Benson, Madison Burks, Miley Burks, Mackenzie Burks, Mason Burks, Hayley Slavens, Domannik Pace, Kaleab Pace and Abigayle Pace.

Services for Martha will be 12:00 pm on Tuesday February 21, 2023 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations to any children’s and/or animal organizations of your choice can be made in Martha’s memory.
