Obituary for Vernice Ritter
Vernice Ritter, 89 of Bedford passed away peacefully on Friday March 10, 2023 at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Vernice was born April 8, 1933 in Polk Township, Monroe County and was the daughter of the late Floyd W. and Emma Ruth (Deckard) Deckard. Vernice was a graduate of Heltonville High School with the Class of 1951. Vernice was a homemaker and had worked at RCA and later worked in the sewing room at Indiana University.
Vernice was a member of Donica Church of God and along with her husband Otis they loved to collect antiques. Vernice loved her family and the times she was able to spend with them especially her grandchildren.
Vernice married Otis Ritter on September 13, 1952 and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. Surviving are their 3 sons; Stephen Ritter (Pamela), Philip Ritter (Sarah) and Timothy Ritter; brother, Kenny Deckard (Marcella); grandchildren, Brandon Ritter (Amanda), Bradie Ritter-Hall (Dave), Elizabeth Ritter, Isaac Ritter, and Kyle Ritter (Melissa); great grandchildren, Hunter Trueblood, Hayden Hall, Sydney Hall, Gabby Hall, Brogan Cochran, Evan Spoonmore, Gwenivere Ritter and Miles Ritter; and sister-in-law, Lucille Hedrick.
Vernice was preceded in death by her husband Otis Ritter, her parents, and her sister and brother-in-law; Mildred Eads (Melvin); and brothers and sisters-in-law; Ervin Ritter (Martha), Evelyn Cracraft (Herman), Ellis Ritter (Bernice), Elbert Ritter (Ona Mae), Ermil Ritter (Peggy), Ada Deckard (Vestal); and Roger Hedrick.
Services for Vernice will be 1:00 pm Monday March 13, 2023 at the Donica Church of God, 1969 Donica Church Road Bedford, IN 47421 with Rev. Jason Walsh officiating. Burial will follow at Gilgal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 am until service time on Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Vernice’s memory to the Donica Church of God.
