Obituary for Floyd James Rosenbaum

Floyd James Rosenbaum of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on March 26th. He was at home with his wife, children, and grandchildren by his side.
Floyd was born February 12th, 1954 in Indianapolis to Helen Frye and grew up in the Stinesville area.
While serving in the US Army, Floyd was stationed in Alaska where he taught himself the art of brewing beer which would later become his career.
He married the love of his life, Beth on July 3rd, 1995. They loved to travel, spending vacations on the west Coast with Beth’s brother, Joel. They went to their first NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway with her brother Eric and his wife, Janet. They took each grandchild on a special trip, traveling to Colorado, California and most recently, Utah, in 2021.
In 1997 Floyd began another long special relationship when he began brewing beer with Bloomington Brewing Company, later acquiring the title of Brewmaster. He won many awards and medals for his brews.
He would be a fixture in the brew area at BBC/Lennie’s and many locals would watch him hone his craft through the glass door at the brewery.
The lines were long for his beers at The Taste of Bloomington and Lotus Fest. Most recognizable are Ruby Bloom, Rooftop, Quarrymen, Ten Speed. His 1000th batch was brewed in December 2010 and was named Old Floyd’s.
He retired from the brew side after 15+ years to manage the Loesch Road Farm, raising Italian and Asian buffalo and Black English pigs while also heading up maintenance of One World Enterprises including BBC, Lennie’s, Pizza X, Hive, Woolery Mill and the shared kitchen at Rappel.
Floyd was an outstanding gardener, growing tomatoes, green beans, corn and beautiful flower gardens.
He built a tiny house from the ground up and created a park like setting on the Loesch farm for him and Beth and their family to enjoy campouts on the weekends.
A pipe fitter/welder by trade, he could also fix or build anything electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, etc. and was the Go To Guy when his sons-in-law, grandkids, or his many many friends needed anything.
When he wasn’t working, Floyd enjoyed cruising on his Harley through Monroe and surrounding counties and spending time on their front porch watching and listening to the birds.
He was larger than life and his ability to have or create a good time was unmatched.
Floyd and Beth loved each other endlessly and he will be fiercely missed by her.
He is survived by Beth, his wife of 28 happy years, his children, Heather (Devin) New, Jessica (Clayton) Mitchell, Keith Sowders and Alisha Killion, grandchildren, Wes (Ally) Hovious, Ethan (Avery) New, Ellie New, Laura (Payton) Mitchell, and Chloe Mitchell, great grandkids, Wren, Knox, Ray and Millie.
Also surviving are his father in laws, Fred Shields (Rosalee Anderson) and Dennis Pascual, brother in laws, Joel Shields and Eric (Janet) Shields, nephews, Gareth (Ally) Shields, Gabe (Susie) Shields and niece, Shelby (Justin) Ernst.
