Obituary for Alexander "Alex" Morgan Coffey

Alexander “Alex” Morgan Coffey, age 36, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away at his residence on September 30, 2023.
Born on November 19, 1986 in Bloomington, Indiana, Alex was the son of Lisa (Byers) Stieglitz and Herbert “Marshall” Coffey.
Alex served his country with honor in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged in 2014. Alex worked for his grandfather, Fred Byers at Byers Electric Heating and Cooling until Fred’s retirement. He then worked as a maintenance technician. Alex had a strong love and admiration for animals, but had a special knack for training dogs. He was a talented landscaper, and enjoyed spending his time gardening and planting flowers. In his neighborhood, he turned an area that looked like a jungle, into a beautiful park with trails, bird feeders, picnic tables, and benches to rest on. It quickly became a place for locals to walk their dogs and enjoy nature as he did.
Alex was always looking for ways to help others, and was a friend to many. Alex will be remembered for his sense of humor, beautiful smile, and fierce love for his family. He was deeply loved, and will be missed by so many.
Survivors include his mother, Lisa (Gerry) Stieglitz; father, Marshall Coffey; son, Kash Michael Coffey and daughter, Willow Morgan Coffey; brother, Derek Rollison; sister, Meredith Russ; maternal grandmother, Beverly Byers; aunts, Linda (Jim) Britton, Lori Newsom, Marjorie (Mike) Skidmore, Wanda (David) Brown and Gwen (Phil) Beauchamp; uncle, Steve (Sara) Coffey; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alex was preceded in death by his brother, David Austin Rollison; maternal grandfather, Fred Byers; and paternal grandparents, Hilda and Herbert Coffey.
Visitation will be held at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. on Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will take place at The Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Doctor Bruce R. Rose officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pets Alive in honor of Alex, and his love for animals.
