Obituary for Joey Byers

Joey Lane Byers, 85, of Bloomington, unexpectedly passed away on November 10 at IU Health Bloomington.
Born June 11, 1938, in Monroe County, Indiana, to the late George and Violet (Mood) Byers, Joey graduated from Bloomington High School. He served in the U.S. Army in France for two years and was honorably discharged. Joey worked as a lineman and business agent for IBEW Post #1393 and owned a business in Bedford before focusing on property rentals. A devoted family man, Joey cherished time with his grandson, Jordan, and enjoyed outings with friends, NASCAR races, and Hoosier basketball. He was a proud member of American Legion Post #18 and VFW Post #604.
Joey leaves behind his wife, Marcene (Miller) Byers; daughter, Lisa Figg and her husband, Tom; grandson, Jordan Figg and his wife, Sarah; brothers, Irvin, Jerry, Victor (Alice), and Randy (Judy) Byers; sister-in-law, Arlene Byers; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by brothers Ivan and Larry Byers, sister Verna Perry, parents-in-law Iva and Jim Brown, and sisters-in-law Albene, Lela, Shirley Byers, Maxine Horton, and Frances Osmon.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, from 4 to 8 PM at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard. The funeral service is on Friday, November 17, at The Funeral Chapel, with a visitation from 12 to 1 PM, followed by the service officiated by Reverends Michael Douglas and grandson Jordan Figg at 1 PM. Interment with military honors will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
