Obituary for Thomas Ray Hacker

Thomas Ray Hacker, 79, of Bloomington passed away at his residence on Monday, February 5, 2024. Tom was born January 12, 1945 in Bloomington and was the son of Orval and Naomi (Fielder) Hacker.

Tom was a veteran of the United States Army and the Vietnam War, serving with the 101st Airborne Tigerforce Recon Unit. Tom then spent 33 years at Indiana University in the Chemistry Department. Tom was a member of Westside Community Church, and enjoyed all motorsports especially drag racing which he did at New Hope Dragway and Brown County Dragway. He loved working on motors and tinkering in the garage. Tom was always fast to support his friends with any mechanical project they needed help with.

Tom is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karen Hacker; daughter, Elena “Ellie” Isenhower (Jon); sons, Eric Kramer (Cristine) and Bryan Kramer (Darcy); and 3 grandchildren, Corey, Hannah and Torin.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Tom’s life will be 2 pm on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Bedford, 1515 20th Street, Bedford, IN. Tom Ellsworth and Jason Filler will officiate the service.
