Condolences

Condolence From: Marty Miller LeClerc
Condolence: John - I have fond memories of my weekly visits with your Grandmother Anna Yarling, along with my Mother, Pearl Bass Miller. She always spoke of you and Kent and occasionally you both would be there visiting. I'm a year older than Kent. I had lost all information about where any of your family lived. To a little girl, your Mother, Mary Ellen, was so elegant and stylish! Keeping your family in my prayers.

Condolence: Dear Suzann and family,
Lislott joins me in expressing our condolences to you on the untimely passing of Kent. We will very much miss seeing him in his favored seat at concerts in Auer Hall--especially at string quartets, which he greatly loved. I will also miss having an Amherst classmate in town.
Again, please accept our deepest sympathy.

Condolence From: Evelyn Powers
Condolence: My dear Suzann...So very, very sorry you have lost your beloved Kent. I enjoyed our friendship for over 25 years. I remember the day the Program Director of WFIU-FM Radio, Christina Kuzmych called me, over 20 years ago, with an idea she wanted to pursue. She said she had in mind a two-minute segment, once a week, that she wanted to call, "Speak Your Mind" and, would I be willing to kick it off with Kent Owen. Of course, I jumped at the chance so Kent and I had our "two minutes of fame," once a week, for two years and enjoyed every minute of it! He was both a gentleman and a scholar! God speed, Kent, and God bless you and your family, Suzann, at this very difficult time.

Love and In Sympathy,
Evelyn Powers

Condolence From: Barbara Rockman
Condolence: Dear Suzann,
I don't know if you'll remember me, but my husband, Saul, worked with Kent at AIT for many years, until we left Bloomington in 1984. I wanted to say how sorry we were to learn of Kent's untimely passing and to tell you a very special story about Kent. When our first child, Seth, was born in 1971, Kent came to our house and presented us with a small limestone plaque in the shape of Indiana, to which was attached a brass plate that read: Seth Edward Rockman, August 24, 1971, Born a Hoosier!
It was, without question, the best baby gift ever. For two East Coasters, who were still; coming to grips with living in Indiana, it was absolutely hysterical, bringing us face to face with the reality that we had, indeed, produced a little Hoosier. I can assure you that no baby gifts from that era remain - EXCEPT for that plaque, which has become part of our
family history. It now resides in Seth's house, in Providence, Rhode Island, and Seth, who is now 44, cherishes it. It was so perfectly Kent, and he savored our reaction to it. I will always
remember his droll wit and his gentlemanly manners. We send you our deepest sympathy
and hope that the many wonderful stories I know you will be hearing will help to ease your loss.
Warmest regards,
Barbara Rockman

Condolence: I knew Kent through Rotary, often sharing a table over lunch. His skill as a wordsmith, his quick mind and his ability to articulate on most any subject made the luncheon a delightful experience. His last questions to Rotary speakers brought each meeting to a fitting climax. He will be missed, and I offer my condolences to his family.
