|Eric Powell, Funeral Director/Owner|
Eric Powell has been caring for the funeral needs of Bloomington and Monroe County since 1994. Eric earned a bachelor’s degree in business marketing from Franklin College before completing his studies at Mid-America College of Funeral Service and obtaining his funeral director’s license in 1992. He’s spent almost his entire professional career working in the building that is now home to The Funeral Chapel and he is pleased to personally continue the rich tradition of this unique facility. Eric is a proud member of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association and is actively involved in the community through membership in the Northside Exchange Club, and Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.
|Tim Deckard, Pre Need Director/Owner|
As a partner in The Funeral Chapel, Tim Deckard brings more than 35 years of experience as a specialist in the senior market insurance industry to the firm. Tim opened his own insurance business in 1972, focusing his efforts on the mature customer in need of life insurance, Medicare supplements, long-term care insurance, and other pre-need coverage. Though he spent several years working in a funeral home prior to settling on an insurance career, Tim isn’t involved in the daily operations at The Funeral Chapel. Instead, he lends his financial expertise to developing pre-planning options designed to maximize value and peace of mind.
|Marty Collier, Funeral Director/Manager|
A Bloomington native, Marty Collier brings nearly 20 years of experience to his position as funeral director at The Funeral Chapel. Following graduation in 1987 from Bloomington South, at which he enjoyed a standout basketball career, Marty earned a mortuary science associate’s degree from Vincennes. He has served his hometown as a funeral director since 1990, during which time he spent 15 years working alongside fellow funeral director Eric Powell. The two formed a strong working bond that eventually led Marty to join Eric at The Funeral Chapel. A member of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association, Marty feels one of his greatest responsibilities to the families he serves is presenting a final image of their loved ones that truly represents the way they would like to be remembered.
|Michael Allen Cherkala, Funeral Director|
Mike Cherkala brings 40 years of loyalty and dedication to the funeral profession. Mike graduated from Bloomington South High School where he was Captain and B-Man of the Tennis Team. He later graduated from Indiana University and the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis. Mike is grateful to be working with The Funeral Chapel - the building of which he called "Home" since he was 12 years old.
|Ron Deremiah, CFSP, Funeral Director|
A Bloomington native, Ron graduated from Bloomington High School, attended Indiana University and graduated from Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. He received his license as a Funeral Director/Embalmer in 1968. He was a former partner in a local funeral home until 1995.In 1999 he joined a Funeral Home group in Indianapolis and returned to Bloomington in May of 2017 to begin retirement. After his dedication to funeral service for over 49 years, he realized he really missed serving families and helping them at one of the most difficult times in their lives. After receiving an opportunity to return to serving families at The Funeral Chapel, he decided to drop retirement from his vocabulary. Ron has been married to Kathy Sparks Deremiah for 45 years and they have three married sons and nine grandchildren. Ron is a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, American Legion Post 18, Life Member, VFW Post 604 and Ellettsville Masonic Lodge. A member and past President of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association, member and past member of the Policy Board and Convention Committee of the National Funeral Directors Association, and a life member of the Academy of Funeral Service Practice (CFSP).
|Mary Buher, Greeter|
Mary joined the staff in 2013 after her husband of 52 years Bill Buher passed away. Bill was also part of the staff at the funeral home for several years before his passing. Mary was born in Springville, IN and went to Oolitic High School and Indiana University. She retired from the Monroe County School Corporation. Mary has two sons, Michael (Julia), Bradley (Lita) and 5 grandchildren; Jacob, Zachary, Madison, Brady and Rayna
|Linda Clark, Greeter|
Linda is an "Original" with The Funeral Chapel. She joined our staff when we opened in June, 2009 and has been with us the entire time. Linda retired from Cook Medical and was married to the late William "Bill" Clark. Linda is a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.
|Bill Dunbar, Greeter|
Bill has been with The Funeral Chapel since 2012. He was born and raised int eh Monroe County area where he graduated from Edgewood High School. Bill is married to Donna (Keith) Dunbar and currently lives in Ellettsville. Bill retired from the Indiana Department of Revenue after 30 years as Program Director. He is a member of the Ellettsville First Baptist Church, Veteran's Honor Guard, and Ellettsville Masonic Lodge.

Linda has been with The Funeral Chapel since 2013. She is a lifelong resident of Bloomington having graduated from University High School. She was married to the late Donald Fowler and retired from Indiana University after 37 years. Linda attends Free Methodist Church.
|Jay Robinson, Greeter|
Jay is the son of Jerry and Donna Robinson. A true Cutter, he was born and raised and lived his entire life in Bloomington. A 1987 graduate of Bloomington High School South and attended IU. After 20 years in the Medical Field including 13 with Quest Diagnostics. Jay joined The Funeral Chapel in April of 2014. His is a life long friend of Marty Colliers who got him interested in the funeral business. His family includes his wife Ellen, daughter Jaylen and brother Jeff.

Roger joined the staff at The Funeral Chapel in 2015. Prior to his retirement in December 2014, he spent more than 35 years in sales in the Food and Snack Industry. A Bloomington native, Roger married his high school sweetheart Diana and they are the proud parents of two sons, Eric (Jennifer) and Evan and two grandsons, Noah and Drew. Roger enjoys jogging, hiking with Diana, reading, traveling and spending time with family. He is also a member at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.
