Edgar Buchanan Smith Jr.
Edgar Buchanan Smith Jr., 67, of Bloomington, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at Bloomington Hospital. Born, September 7, 1943 in Dayton, KY, he was the son of Edgar B. Smith Sr. and Irene (Brock) Smith. Edgar graduated from Bloomington High School and Indiana University with a Bachelor’s in History and a Master’s in education. He was a teacher at Smithville Schools and was employed by the Monroe County Community School Corporation, most recently manning the security desk at Bloomington High School North. Edgar served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant and was in the Military Police during the Vietnam War. He earned two bronze stars, including one for valor during the Tet Offensive. He was a member of the Simpson Chapel Methodist Church. Edgar was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed reading, sports, history, politics and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Jeanne (Molnar) Smith, a son, Al Smith (Christine) of Danville, a daughter, Amanda Biela (Michael) of Chicago, IL, two sisters, Nancy Simon and Sarah Marshall of Indianapolis, five grandchildren, Andrew and Lizzie Smith, Theodore, Clara and Thomas Biela. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be 1:00pm Friday, November 19, 2010 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington, with Helen Stephenson officiating. Visitation will be 2-8pm Thursday and 12-1pm Friday at The Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Chambersville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc.
